Procedure for B.E. / B.Tech Under Government Admission:

Special Eligibility for Marine Engineering :


  • The Director General of Shipping has approved the 4 Year Bachelor of Engineering Course in MARINE ENGINEERING conducted by this college vide approval No. TR/A/73/2002 dated 17 June 2002.
    College INDOS No. - 806 Course ID - 64.

    Also D G Shipping has Certified this 4 years B.E. Marine Engineering is equivalent to the 4 years Marine Engineering Degree course conducted by MERI, Kolkata vide letter No.3-TR(26)/99 dated 02 Aug 2002.


  • Special Eligibility criteria for B.E. Marine Engineering :

    3.1. Admission for Unmarried Indian Male candidates only.

    3.2. Candidates who have studied in Science Stream (English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry) at 10+2 level are only eligible for admission.

    3.3. A minimum of 60% marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry for all categories i.e., OC/BC/MBC/SC/ST.

    3.4. Vocational / Diploma course students are not eligible.

    3.5. Age not less than 17 years as on 1.7.2006. and maximum age is 20 years.

    3.6. Candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English at 10th or 12th standard Examination.

    3.7.
    Candidates will be admitted to the course only after obtaining Physical Fitness Certificate signed by a Medical Officer approved by the Director General of Shipping, Government of India. Two of the Medical Officer addresses are given below :

    3.8. Eye sight : Beyond plus/minus 2.5 will be rejected. Defective color vision will be rejected. There should not be any degree of squint.

    3.9. The Candidate has to pass psychological Screening Test called "Merchant Marine Personality Evalution"
            (MMPE) test, before admission.

    3.10 Admission to the course is subject to the approval by the Director General of Shipping, Mumbai, for each student case by case.

    3.11. PHYSICAL FITNESS

    A candidate, after provisional selection, will be medically examined by specialists before final selection. The candidate has to pay Rs.500/- towards medical examination charges. For the information of parents and students, the medical requirements are given in Appendix 1 to this instruction.

    Final suitability will be based on satisfying the medical conditionsprescribed for the course. Parents and guardians of candidates are advised to have their wards medically examined even before they apply for admission to the above course to ensure that they meet the medical requirements and avoid disappointment at a later stage.

    The Government/Management does not accept any responsibility whatsoever for any expenses incurred or losses suffered by parents/guardians of candidates irrespective of their final admission or otherwise.

    3.12. UNIFORM

    Candidates will be required to wear uniform throughout the period of training at their own cost. Long hair, moustaches and beards are not allowed during the period of study.

    3.13. HOSTEL and MESS

    The course is compulsorily residential and candidates are provided with boarding and lodging.

    3.14. CURRICULAR AND EXTRA-CURRICULAR TRAINING.

    It is compulsory for all candidates to take part in P.T., indoor and outdoor games, swimming, parade and any other co-curricular activities. Students will be required to successfully complete any modular courses introduced from time to time and tests prescribed for them e.g. First Aid at Sea, Basic Fire Fighting, Survival at Sea. Students will also be required to pass any other test which may be introduced from time to time e.g. Physical Fitness tests, Swimming Tests, Fire Fighting & First Aid test, Welding Training Test and Training for 26 weeks at major ports and vessels.

    3.15. TRAINING AND ASSESSMENT RECORD BOOK

    Every candidates will be issued Training & Assessment Record Book (TAR) and he is responsible for up keep and security of the book.

    3.16. STANDING ORDER

    All candidates should follow the routine standing order laid down by the Management and Hostel and order from the Director General of Shipping from time to time.

    3.17. ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT

    100% attendance is mandatory. Any absence for whatever reason will have to be made up by during the weekly holiday, mid-term breaks, or at year end.

    3.18. ACCIDENT OR INJURY

    Neither the Institute nor the Government takes any responsibility for any accident or injury that the cadets may sustain during the course of their training. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) are required to furnish an undertaking in the form prescribed.

    3.19. GENERAL

    This Information is published for benefit of prospective candidates on the various aspects of the Marine Engineering Degree Course. Management retains the right of bringing into force new rules or amendments, alteration or deletions in the existing rules governing the conduct of this course. It is obligatory on the part of the candidate admitted to the training course to conform to all such rules and regulation laid down from time to time irrespective of whether they are indicated in this brochure or not. The College does not accept responsibility for any additional expense or loss incurred by the parents/guardians of a candidate under such circumstances.

    APPENDIX 1

    MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS



    To be declared fit for selection, a candidate must be in good mental and physical health and free from any defect likely to interfere with the efficient performance of duties.The following features are to be particularly observed:

    1. CONSTITUTION

    There should be no evidence of weak constitution by way of imperfect development of muscles or serious malformation, weight below 43 kg. and height below 150 cm will be rejected. The chest should be well developed with a minimum range of expansion of 5 cms.

    2. SKELETAL SYSTEM

    There should be no disease or impairment of functions of bones or joint, contracture or of deformity of chest or any joint, abnormal curvatures of spines, deformity of upper limbs, malformation of the head, deformity from fractures or depression of the skull. Fractures (healed) with a pin inside will be disqualification.

    3.EAR, NOSE and THROAT

    There should be no impaired hearing, discharge or disease in either ear , unhealed perforation of tympanic membrane or any sign of acute or chronic supperative otitis media or evidence of radical mastoid operation, evidence of disease of the bones and cartilage of the nose, nasal polypus or disease of nasopharynx or accessory sinuses, loss or decay of teeth to such an extent as to interfere with efficient mastication.No disease of throat, palate, tonsils or gums or any disease or injury affecting the normal function of either temporo mandibular joint.Individuals with severe pyorrhea are to be rejected.

    4. SPEECH

    There should be no impediment of speech (e.g. stammering).

    5. LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

    There should be no enlarged glands, tubercular or due to other diseases in the neck or other parts of the body.Thyroid gland should be normal.

    6. CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM

    There should be no sign of functional or valvular or other diseases of the heart and blood vessels.Electrocardiogram should be within normal limits.Systolic Blood Pressure should not exceed 140 mm of Hg nor Diastolic above 90 mm of Hg.

    7. RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

    There should be no evidence of chronic or respiratory tract disease, pulmonary tuberculosis or previous history of this disease or any chronic disease of the lungs.
    X-ray of chest should be normal.

    8. DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

    There should be no evidence of any disease of the digestive system and liver and spleen should not be palpable and there should be no abdominal tenderness on palpation.

    9. GENITOURINARY SYSTEM

    There should be no palpable and enlarged kidneys.There should not be any disease of the kidneys.Cases showing alburminuria, glycosurea or blood (R.B.C) in urine will be rejected.There should be no hernia or tendency thereto.Those who have been operated for hernia may be declared fit provided

    1. One year has elapsed after the operation. Documentary proof to be produced by the candidate.
    2. General tone of abdominal should be good, and
    3. There has been no recurrence of hernia or complications with the operation.

    There should be no hydrocele, vericocele, spermatocele or any other defect of genital organs, no fistula and/or anal fissure or evidence of hemorrhoids (piles), rectal polyps. There should be no active latent or congenital veneral disease, undescended intra abdominal testicle on one side unassociated with hernia, provided the other testicle is normal and that there is no physical or psychological effect due to underscended testicle will be accepted. Undescended testis retained in inguinal canal or at the extra abdominal ring will be rejected.

    10. SKIN

    There should be no skin disease unless temporary or trivial.Scars which by their extent or position are likely to cause disability or marked disfigurement will be a cause of rejection.

    11. NERVOUS SYSTEM

    There should be no history or evidence of mental disease of the candidate or in his family.Candidates having history of fits in continence of urine or enuresis will not be accepted.Mental or nervous irritability, abnormality of gait, defective functions of cranial nerves, incoordination, motor or sensory defaults will be rejected.

     

    12. EYE SIGHT

    There should not be any degree of squint or any morbid condition of eyes or of the eyelid that is liable to aggravate or recur, pressure of trachome and iris complication sequela.Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes).Movement of the eyeballs must be in full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation.Eyesight beyond plus/minus 2.5 will be rejected. Defective colour vision tested by ISHIARA test chart is disqualification for admission.

    13. DRUG AND ALCOHOL DEPENDENCY

    Any history or sign of any drug or alcohol dependency will be a cause for rejection

    14. M.M.P.E Test

    The Merchant Marine Personality Evaluation (MMPE) Test shall be compulsory for all the Candidates desirous of joining Merchant navy in their Career.

    The MMPE Test will be conducted at Chennai - National Institute of Port Management(NIPM),Chennai.

    15. GENERAL

    Any other defect which in the opinion of medical Specialists will interfere with the individual's efficiency as an Officer of Merchant Navy, is sufficient cause for rejection.
