EDC officials attended the One-day state level conference on “Establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Cells in Higher Education Institutions in Tamilnadu”, organized by Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Govt. of Tamilnadu at Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam on 21.12.2012 (Fri).
EDC official attended one-day seminar, organized by ‘AAVIN’ i.e Tamilnadu Co-operative Milk Producer’s Federation Ltd., in association with Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Govt. of Tamilnadu at Anna Institute of Management, Greenways road, Chennai on 9.2.2013.
A guest lecture was delivered by Mr.Peter and Mr.Arun, M/s Ticket Goose.com on 11.02.2013. The main objective of this lecture is to nurture the entrepreneurial culture amongst the students and to provide first hand information on commencing new business. Around 30 students of all branches have actively attended this lecture. From this group, interested students were invited to register with www.ticket goose.com by submitting their resume.
M/s.Ticketgoose.com visited our institution on 25.02.2013 and they have interacted with interested students. From that, seven students have been shortlisted and attended an interview on 25/02/2013. The selected students were instructed will undergo intensive training in Entrepreneurship development programme in next six month.
A Guest Lecture on “An Entrepreneurship – A Journey” was delivered on 04/03/2013 by Mr.A.Arun, CEO of M/s.Ticketgoose.com. He has explained various innovative ideas from the scratch of identifying problems, strategic decision and solution to become an entrepreneur in the future to our students. All branches of around fifty students have participated actively.
A three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp is scheduled to organise in association with Entreprenruship Development Institute (EDI), Govt. of Tamilnadu between 27th and 29th March, 2013. But, due to college closed indefinitely, it was postponed. It is planned to organise at the earliest.
A SVCE student team, lead by Mr.Govind Arjun and Ms.Rakshita, has expressed their interest in establishing and running a milk parlor in the college campus as part of learning entrepreneurial experiences. This initiative is the outcome of scheme of AAVIN, Govt. of Tamilnadu. They prepared and submitted a business proposal to SVCE and the same is expected to resume soon.
As part of entrepreneurship development, a team of students are encouraged and motivated to establish a milk parlour in the college campus. It is the scheme promoted by AAVIN for the benefit of students which will help the students to learn entrepreneurial experience. The necessary preparatory works are in progress and is expected to commence on 27th March, 2013.

The Inaugural function of Aavin Parlour was held at our College on 15.04.2013 in a very grand manner. The function was started in the morning at 09.00 AM.

They were welcomed by Dr.M.Subramaniam, Professor in Dept. of ECE & Chief Coordinator of EDC-SVCE, Mr Senthil Velan, Asst. Professor in Dept. of Marine Engineering & Project Officer in EDC-SVCE and the SVCE-AAVIN team members (student entrepreneurs).
They were honored with Shawls by our Principal. The AAVIN Milk Parlor was inaugurated by cutting the ribbon and lighting Kuthuvilakku by the Chief Guests, Principal and Chief Coordinator. The parlour was declared open for sale of the products. To the much delight of all, there was a brisk sale of the products by the students and faculty who came in large numbers. They made purchases, supported the SVCE-AAVIN team and also wished all success for the team.
Immediately a special Archanai and worship at Vijaya Ganapathy temple was held for the successful running of the Parlour without any hurdles. The team members were given the Managala Aarathi and the Aavin key was handed over to the team with the blessing of the almighty for all the success.
At 09.30am, a programme was arranged at Video Hall for the inaugural address by the guests. Many students and faculty participated in this inaugural function. The programme was excellently compeered by Ms Priyanka, one of the Aavin Entrepreneurs.
Dr.M.Subramaniam, Professor, Dept of ECE & Chief Project Coordinator, EDC-SVCE has welcomed the guests and participants. He particularly emphasized that students should first give top priority to studies which should not be neglected and also requested the Aavin members to work as a team. He thanked the chief guest for all their support. He made a special request to Mr.P.Tamilselvan, DGM, Aavin to provide the products at a very special discount rate to the students and also to give maximum concession in the rental charges. Mr P Tamil Selvan, DGM was kind enough to accept his request and agreed to give a special discount. He also made a request to Dr P. Sai Prasad, Deputy Director, EDI for conducting ‘Entrepreneur Awareness Program’ (EAP) at the earliest since the program planned in the last week of March 2013 could not be conducted because of the closure of colleges due to Srilankan issue.
Mr.P.Tamil Selvan Dy. General Manager (Mkg), Aavin gave very inspiring speech. He spoke about the importance of why Aavin. He said that buying Aavin products will help the large section of poor farmers and the products are of high quality & very good for health. He also said that the products are sold at a very less profit margin and it is more of a service to the mankind.
His speech was followed by Dr.P.Sai Prasad, Dy. Director, Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI), Govt of Tamil nadu. He readily agreed the request of Dr M.Subramaniam for conducting the EAP. His inaugural speech was very encouraging and thought provoking. He said the concept of “Entrepreneurs are born and not made’’ has gone and today’s situation is ‘Entrepreneurs are made not born’. He cited the very good example of Mr.Steeve Jobs, the brain behind the M/s Apple computers, who came from rags to riches at a very early age.
The key note address was given by Prof.E.G.Govindan, Vice Principal and he expressed his sincere thanks for the chief guests for making this Aavin parlor successfully inaugurated at the college premises. He presented mementos to the chief guests and also wished the SVCE-AAVIN Team all the success.
The vote of thanks was given by Ms.N.Rakshita, student entrepreneur. She expressed her sincere thanks to the chief guests, SVCE management, faculty and the students in a very spirited manner. On behalf of the SVCE-AAVIN parlor team, she expressed sincere thanks to the management for giving much support and encouraging to run this parlor in the college campus which will definitely help them to become entrepreneurs & get self-confidence. Also, she highlighted that by seeing this initiative, many students will get awareness and in the long run college will be very popular for developing the entrepreneurship.
The inaugural function ended well with a grand success.

The Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp was organized from 5-4-2012 to 6-4-2012, at SVCE with support of AICTE. Nearly sixty students were participated this event.
(2008-09 & 2009-10)
A three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp was organised between 27.04.2010 and 29.04.2010 for the benefit of our college students in which the necessary information on Project Identification, preparation of Project Report, importance of Market Survey, Accounting concept, etc are given.
Technology Based Entrepreneurship Development Program on WELDING PRACTICES (from 10.03.2010 to 26.04.2010):
Six-weeks training on “Welding Practices” was conducted by our EDC in association with Dept. of Mechanical Engineering and Dept. of Marine Engineering for ITI/ Diploma / Degree holders from 10.03.2010 to 26.04.2010.
This program was conducted as part of Dept. of Science & Technology – National Implementation and Monitoring Agency (DST-NIMAT) Project, which is being implemented by Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) under the aegis of The National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB), Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, New Delhi.
The motivational campaign for the training program was conducted in our college on 01.03.2010. In that program, Prof.S.Ramesh explained the delegates about the objectives of the training program, whereas Mr.M.Mohandass, Senior Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering explained the course content. It was decided to commence the programme on 10.03.2010.
Dr.S.Selvaraju, Dean & Professor – Marine Engineering inaugurated the training program on 10.03.2010. Dr.N.Nallusamy, Head – Department of Mechanical Engineering advised the participants to make use of this opportunity. The main objective of this training program was highlighted by Prof.S.Ramesh, Chief Project Co-ordinator, EDC-SVCE.
Mr.M.Mohandass, Senior Lecturer, Department of Mechanical Engineering who is the Technical Coordinator of this programme, explained the course content to the participants on the inauguration day.
The programme was scheduled for 30 working days to cover Arc Welding, Gas Welding, TIG Welding and MIG Welding. The program covered the theory aspects of welding, practical oriented hands-on training to each participants, entrepreneurial inputs, industrial visit, guidance on establishing a welding enterprise, testing laboratory, etc.
Participation certificate to all the 20participants were given during the valedictory programme. Prof.K.V.Sivanarayana, Head, Dept. of Marine Engineering released the Course Material and handed over the certificate to all participants. Dr.R.Ramachandran, Principal delivered valedictory address.

Student Competition – Villgro My Idea Program & Young Innovator Program
Our EDC-SVCE organized a student competition, Villgro My Idea Program, with the support of PSG-STEP, Coimbatore on 29.01.2010 in our college campus. The main objective of this programme is to encourage the budding engineers to come out with their innovative ideas / concepts.
The total number of teams enrolled is 33 in which 19 teams presented their ideas. This is intra-collegiate level competition held in our college campus. Team of Mr.R.Arjun, Mr.Dinesh Kumar, Mr.Abhishek Srinivas from sixth semester BE (Mech) presented their sixth semester design project, titled “Continuously Variable Transmission System for Farm Equipments and Pumps”, which has been selected for first prize.
They are qualified to participate in the inter-collegiate level competition, Villgro Young Innovator Program, held in IITM on 19th and 20th March 2010. Around 60team from various engineering colleges participated. The first prize won by our college students Mr.R.Arjun, Mr.Dinesh Kumar, Mr.Abhishek Srinivas with cash award of Rs.10,000/-
His project aims to design a step less transmission mechanism, very simple in design and completely eliminates the application of gears. The organizer, Villgro came forward to encourage our students by means extending their support in all aspects to convert their concept into commercialization and further for parent.
"My Idea Programme" , Stage-1 of student competition at intra-college level, was organised in our college campus. The main objective of this programme is to encourage the budding engineers to bring out their innovative idea/concept, which will be highly useful for society.
Nearly 32 teams enrolled out of which 19teams presented thier ideas. The results:

The First prize winner is eligible to participate in the stage-2 of student competition at inter-collegiate level to be held in IITM.

TECHNOLOGY BASED ENTREPRENUERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM ON REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE OF AUTOMOTIVE VEHICLES (2 & 3 WHEELERS (From 24.11.2009 to 06.01.2010)
The Department of Automobile Engineering and Entrepreneurship Development Cell of our college is jointly organizing a 6 weeks training on "Repair and Maintenance of Automotive Vehicles (Two and Three Wheelers)" for ITI/ Diploma holders from 24. 11.2009 to 06.01.2010.
The program has been sponsored by "National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi
The motivational campaign for the training program was conducted in our college on 20.11.2009. In that program, Prof.S.Ramesh explained the delegates about the objectives of the training program, whereas Mr.V.Ganesh, Senior Lecturer, Department of Automobile Engineering explained the course content and objective of the program. On the same day, 21 participants registered for the training program.
Dr.R.Ramachandran, Principal inaugurated the training program on 24.11.2009. Dr.T.N.Srikantha Dath, Head of the Department, Automobile Engineering delivered the welcome address and mentioned that the participants can make use of excellent facilities available in the department. The EDC objective behind this training program was highlighted by Prof.S.Ramesh, Chief Project Co-ordinator, EDC-SVCE.
The program objectives and the course content details was explained to the participants by Mr.C.Kannan, Senior Lecturer, Department of Automobile Engineering on the inauguration day. At the end of inauguration, the training program started with a total of 25 participants.

A three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp was organised between 22.9.2009 and 24.9.2009 for the benefit of engineering, science & technology students.
Mr.R.Elango, an Social Entrepreneur cum Managing Trustee of Trust for Village Self Governance, inaugurated this program. Subsequent to his motivation talk, all the participants are inspired to visit his set-up. A field visit was arranged to M/s Trust for Village Self Governance at Kuthambakkam, Poonamallee.
Mr.Balaji & Mr.Prashanth, alumni of SVCE, bussing Entrepreneurs are invited to have a session, "an interaction with upcoming / successful entrepreneurs".
Three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme was organized between 11th and 13th Mar, 2009 with the support of Dept. of Science &
Technology(NSTEDB Division) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad. The main objective is to create awareness on
entrepreneurship among the college students in which 79 students participated.
An Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme was organised between 24th and 26th Mar, 2009 exclusively for the benefit of the students from nearby engineering institution. This programme was organised with the support of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi.
December2008 - January 2009:
22days Business Skill Development Programme has been organized from 12th Dec, 2008 to 12th Jan, 2009 for the benefit of young engineering and management graduates with the support of MSME Development Institute, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises. 27persons attended this programme.
November 2008 - December 2008:
Six-weeks Technology based Entrepreneurship Development Programme on Computer Hardware Maintenance has been organized from 3rd Nov, 2008 to 16th Dec, 2008 for the benefit of unemployed youth with the support of Dept. of Science & Technology(NSTEDB Division) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad. 32persons were benefited. First follow-up meet was organized on 19th Feb, 2009.
A three-day Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme has been organized between 29.9.2008 and 01.10.2008 for the benefit of students from nearby engineering institutions.
This program was organised in the college campus with the support of Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII), Ahmedabad under the aegis of National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board(NSTEDB), Dept. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.
Experts from various sources have been invited as Resource Person to enlighten the Participants. Also, visits have been arranged to have an interaction with practicing / successful entrepreneur.
With the support of DST and EDII, EDC-SVCE organised 3day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp in our college campus between 20.8.2008 and 22.8.2008 for the benefit of SVCE students.
Nearly 100students attended this programme. Mr.Alan, alumnus of SVCE who is an young entrepreneur, motivated the participants.
February - March 2008
EDC-SVCE organised a 22days Business Skill Development Programme in association with MSME Development Institute (MSME-DI), Guindy, Chennai with the support of Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India. The target participants were BE/BTech/MBA graduates.
The BSDP was conducted in the college campus between 06.02.2008 and 01.03.2008. Shri S.Sivagananam, Director, MSME-DI, Chennai inaugurated the programme on 6th Feb 2008.
22 resource persons were invited and three business visits were arranged to train/motivate/encourage the participants.
The valedictory of this 22days programme was held on 4th Mar, 2008. Shri R.Pannerselvam, Deputy Director, MSME-DI delivered the valedictory address. Shri T.G.Balachandran, Secretary & Registrar, SVEHT handed over the certificates. Prof Dr.R.Ramachandran, Principal, SVCE presided over the valedictory. January 2008Entrepreneuship Development Cell at Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering and MSME Development Institute, Chennai were jointly organised an Entrepreneurship Motivational Campaign on 28th Jan, 2008 at Guindy.
