  • The Department of Biotechnology, SVCE conducted National Level Technical Symposium ‘OMICS-2018’ on 29th September,2018 in Biotechnology Conference Hall.

Ltd inaugurated the National Level Technical Symposium ‘OMICS-2018’ and delivered guest lecture on "Translational Research on Biotechnology". Prof. M. Sivanandham, Secretary, Sri Venkateswara Educational and Health Trust, Chennai Presided over the Inaugural function.

  • Ms. Janani M under the mentorship of Prof. E. Nakkeeran secured First Prize (Prize amount Rs. 1000/-) for the paper titled "Synthesis of Turmeric Oil Loaded Non-Ionic Surfactant Vesicles and its Microbicidal and Mosquito Larvicidal Activity" in the National conference on "Recent Advances in Biotechnology for Healthcare" held at Rajalakshmi Engineering College on 26 & 27.09.2018.
  • DV Dharshini, Khaviya D and Chandini S of second year BTech Biotechnology student, under the mentorship of Dr. S. Prabhu secured Best Poster Award for the poster titled "Avenanthramide, a  natural immunotherapeutic agent for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease" in the International Conference on Immunology held at J SRM University on September 28,2018. 
  • C. T. Indira Nachammai and Valle Natarajan of Third Year Biotechnology won the Best Poster Award for the project titled “ To Prolong the shelf-life of the Mushroom by Biofilm Coating” under the mentorship of Ms. N. Kanagam in ICRTAC – CPS 2018  organized by VIT, Vellore held on 10.09.2018 and 11.09.2018.

Nilavunesan at the National Conference on Recent Trends in chemical, Energy & Environmental Engineering conducted by SSN College of Engineering on 31.08.2018.
  • Ms. N. Shakunthala, Mr. A. Ashwin,Ms. N. Anusuya, II year students under the mentorship of Prof. E. Nakkeeran/BT and Ms. KirubaWisley/IT secured First Place with a cash prize of Rs.3000/- in the Hackathon for the project idea titled "Product Development Based on Ingredient Properties" in the International Conference on Recent Advances in Food Processing Technology held at Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Tanjore during 17.08.2018 to 19.08.2018.

Prof. M. Sivanandham, Secretary, Sri Venkateswara Educational and Health Trust, Chennai Presided over the Inaugural function on 24/8/2018.
  • Prof. M. Sivanandham, Visiting Professor, Dept of Biotechnology, SVCE& Secretary, SVEHT, Chennai delivered guest lecture on "Immunoadjuvants for vaccines " on 24/8/2018.
  • Dr. Balu Ranganathan, Technology - Director, Palms Connect LLC, Sandy, Utah, USA delivered guest lecture on "Biotechnology based startup companies – future prospects" on 25/8/2018.
  • Dr. Luke Elizabeth Hanna, Scientist ‘E’, HIV/ AIDS Laboratory, Department of Clinical Research,National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis delivered guest lecture on "Emerging approaches for the prevention and treatment of HIV infection" and Presided over the Valedictory function on 25/8/2018.

Alumni Interaction Meeting

  • Department of Biotechnology & Students Biotech forum organized alumni interaction. During this video conferencing Ms. Samudra, Ms. Varshini and Ms. Vidhya (2013-2017 Batch) and Mr. Prasanna Kumar (2014-2018 Batch) Biotechnology Students had  meeting with the final year & third year B.Tech Biotechnology Students in the Dr. ACM Library conference hall on 21.08.2018. During their video conferencing they elaborated about "Higher Studies Opportunities in USA universities and the application procedure".

  • Department of Biotechnology & Students Biotech forum organized alumni interaction with M.Tech students 2013-2017 Batch on 20.08.2018.

II year B. Tech Biotechnology students won First place in Hackthon on ICRAFPT-2018 held at Indian Institute of Food Processing Technology, Tanjore

  • Second year B. Tech Biotechnology students, Ms. N. Shakunthala, Mr. A. Ashwin, Ms. N. Anusuya under the mentorship of Prof. E.   • The Department of Biotechnology, SVCE conducted National Level one week Short Term Training Programme on "Bioprocess and Downstream Process Techniques" during 21st - 25th May, 2018.

  • Springboards, Chennai and  Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering organized  SATY 2018 "Summer Camp on Engineering & Technology for School Children" during 7th-11th May, 2018. Around 60 students participated from various schools in and around Chennai.

    CTS Scholarship Award for the Year 2017-2018

    • J.R.Charitable trust scholarship award (CTS scholarship) for the academic year 2017-2018 was awarded to Ms. K.B. Leena (2016-2018) and Mr. S. Hariharan (2017-2019) of M.Tech Biotechnology, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering sponsored by Cognizant Technology Solutions.

  • Mr. Veveeyan S received ISTE Best Student Award 2017  at the 17th ISTE TN section Annual Convention of Engineering Students 2017 on 10th April 2018 at Tagore Engineering College, Rathinamangalam, Chennai.

  • Mr. S. Naga Vignesh, Assistant Professor, Department of Biotechnology received an grant of Rs. 8 lakhs from  Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India for the project  titled "A study on biosorption mechanism of various microbial sources isolated from heavy metal polluted soil and aquatic environment samples for comprehensive database construction to study the consequence of numerous microorganisms in combination against various pollutants for extracting the best microbial systems as “heavymetal contamination alleviators" for a period of 1 year. 
  • Ms. Mythreyi NR under the internal mentorship of Prof. E. Nakkeeran secured Best Paper Award for the paper titled "Optimization Studies for the Enhanced Production of Lipase" in the International conference on "Science, Engineering and Technology" held at Jeppiaar Engineering College on 23 & 24th March 2018. 

  •  Mr. Rupesh Balaji, Mr. Rajendra Kumar, Mr. K.R.Karthikeyan and Mr. Sriram Prakash under the mentorship of  Dr. A. Senthil Nagappan and Dr. D. Nilavunesan secured first prize for the poster titled " Characterization of Chlorella Sp. Sskv1 for Biodiesel Production " in the National Conference on Biotechnology for sustainable development held at Arunai Engineering College on 16 & 17th March 2018.
  • Ms. K.P. Sonia under the guidance of Prof. M. Sivanandham & Mr. P. K. Praveen Kumar won first prize in in Oral presentation titled  "Effect of Boeravinone b treatedDendritic cells on T cell proliferation" in  National conference on Transfigures in Bio Science and Technology held at Madha Engineering College on 16th of March, 2018.

  • Mr. N. Sathish and students, Mr. S.Sriyayanth, Mr. A.Shamem Javed under the mentorship of Prof.Sulochana somasundaram  secured Best Paper Award for the paper titled "Isolation and Characterization of metal resistant Lactobacillus from goat gut and it's activity against chromium" in the National Conference on Biotechnology for sustainable development held at Arunai Engineering College on 16 & 17th March 2018. 

  • P. Ranitha, Programme Analyst, Zifo RnD Solutions, Chennai (2012-2016 Batch) addressed the prefinal year regarding "Healthcare professionals" on 9th March 2018

  • First year B.Tech Biotechnology student Ms. N. Shakunthala won Third Prize in the topic of Smart Field for pest Management in "Bio- Hackathon 1.0" conducted as part of Biotechcellence'18 - The National Level Technical Symposium Organised by Department of Biotechnology, Anna University, Guindy, Chennai on   14 & 15, March, 2018.
  • Mr.R.Darun and Ms. S.Charulatha Final year B.Tech Biotechnology students won best poster award and first prize for the project titled  "CHARACTERIZATION OF ANTHRANILATE SYNTHASE CODING TRPE GENE FOR OVERPRODUCTION OF L-TRYPTOPHAN AMINOACID IN E.COLI DH5α STRAIN" under the guidance of Dr.S. Prabhu in National conference on Recent trends in Biotechnology and Applications conducted by Vels University, Pallavaram, Chennai on 1& 2nd March 2018.

  • First year BTech Biotechnology students H Lipekha & D. V Dharshini won First Place and KalphaVarshaa won Second place in "National Commission for Women Awareness Campaign" conducted online MCQ test by Anna University on the two topics of "The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act 2005" and "Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace Act 2013" on  17th of November of 2017.

Team SVCE CHENNAI secured Silver Medal in iGEM - 2017 competition

  • Team SVCE_CHENNAI consisting of  thirteen undergraduate students from Biotechnology and Computer Science Engineering streams mentored by Prof. M. Sivanandham, Prof. Nalinkanth V Ghone and Mr. J. Hariharan received Silver Medal this year  for the project titled "Design and Construction of Novel Genetic Circuits using Temperature and pH based Regulatory Parts ", in the iGEM 2017 competition held at Boston, USA during 8th -12th November 2017.

  • Mr. J.G.  Aswin Jeno (2016-2018 - M.Tech Biotechnology) under the guidance of Prof. E. Nakkeeran received Intramural funding (2017-2018) of Rs. 10,000/- from SVCE for the project entitled "Essential Oil mediated Biogenic Nanoparticle Activity against mosquito larvae".

Alumni Interaction Meeting

  • Department of Biotechnology & Students Biotech forum organized alumni interaction. Ms. Saai Anugraha, Ms. Sahana, Mr. Shrinath, Ms. Anuja and Ms. Dhanya (2011-2015 Batch) Biotechnology Students had  meeting with the final year & third year B.Tech Biotechnology Students in the Dr. ACM Library conference hall on 5th October 2017. During their video conferencing they elaborated about "Higher Studies Opportunities in USA & Sweden universities and the application procedure".

  • The Department of Biotechnology, SVCE conducted National Level Technical Symposium ‘OMICS-2017’ on 25th September,2017 in Biotechnology Conference Hall.
  • Mr. Jatin Vimal, Partner / Co-founder, Levim Biotech LLP, Ticel Biopark Ltd.-II, CSIR Road, Taramani, Chennai Tamil Nadu – 600 113 inaugurated the National Level Technical Symposium ‘OMICS-2017’ and delivered guest lecture on "BIO-ENTREPRENEURSHIP". Prof. M. Sivanandham, Secretary, Sri Venkateswara Educational and Health Trust, Chennai Presided over the Inaugural function.
  • Prof. S. Ganesh Vaidyanathan, Principal, Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering Presided over the Valedictory function.

  • Dr. Anitha Ramesh, Professor - Saveetha Medical College & Hospital Senior Consultant - Medical Oncology and Pediatric Oncology Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Chennai delivered guest lecture on “Current Trends and Research in Oncology" on 7.9.2017.
