    FUNDED PROJECTS

Prof. Sulochana Somasundaram project entitled on "Evaluation of soil contamination with extended spectrum of beta lactamace (ESBL) producing microbes from the environment of hospital area and the molecular characteristics of ESBL producers" got sanctioned Rs. 15, 65,300 by ICMR, India.


    FUNDED CONFERENCE

Prof. Sulochana Somasundaram received Rs 1,00, 000/- from National funding agencies such as DBT & ICMR- New Delhifor conducting the workshop on “Understanding the molecular aspects of microbial drug resistance: An emerging microbial threat to health” from5th to 10th December, 2016.

  • Govt. of India: Research assistant, Tuberculosis Research Centre, Supra National Laboratory for Tuberculosis, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Chennai.


      Achievements in Research:

  • MS final year project work was the first publication to define Ofloxacin Resistance on clinical isolates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and it is functional in treating the MDR TB patients.

  • My Ph.D results formed the basis for conducting the Clinical trial Study XXIV at TRC, SNRL for Tuberculosis, ICMR, Chennai to treat the MDR-TB patients with new regime of quinolone drugs.

  • Established Opportunistic Infection laboratory for HIV at TRC, Chennai.
