About Us

The Youth Red Cross (YRC) Unit at Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering (SVCE) is one of the oldest and most active clubs on campus. It proudly holds the distinction of being among the earliest YRC units established in Tamil Nadu. Guided by the motto “Through Humanity to Peace,” the unit stands as a beacon of humanitarian service and student engagement.

The YRC-SVCE Unit was initially coordinated by Dr. R. Govindarasu, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and is currently led by Dr. T. Balusamy, Assistant Professor in the Department of Applied Chemistry. The unit regularly organizes monthly programs in collaboration with the Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch.

The primary mission of the YRC-SVCE Unit is to instill a sense of social responsibility in students, raise awareness about health and life skills, and promote moral and ethical development. A key focus is placed on serving the sick and suffering, with the aim of empowering young people to become socially responsible leaders and active contributors to the welfare of vulnerable communities.

Every student enrolled at SVCE is considered an active member of the YRC and is encouraged to participate enthusiastically in its various initiatives.

Supported generously by the College Management, the unit continues to thrive and expand its outreach. The Principal, Prof. Dr. E. N. Ganesh, serves as the Chief Advisory Committee Member of the YRC-SVCE Unit. His unwavering support and motivation play a crucial role in the unit’s success.

In recognition of its outstanding contributions, the YRC-SVCE Unit has been honored with the Best Unit Award for two consecutive years: 2023–2024 and 2024–2025.
