Department of Civil Engineering

The department has three recognized research supervisors of Anna University. Students and faculty are actively involved in research. They have received intra-mural research funds to carry out their research work. Students will exhibit innovative ideas during “SVCE Innovates- Students’ Research Day” for every academic year under the guidance of faculty menter.

The department caters to the needs of B.E. Civil Engineering course and is also engaged in teaching and research in the areas such as

• Structural Engineering - Geopolymer Composites - FRP Composite Structures - Steel- Concrete Composite Structures.
• Smart Materials – Magnetorheological Gels- Magneovo-viscoelastic experimental techniques under static and dynamic loading- Constitutive Modeling – Seismic Isolation.
• Model shift analysis- Travel Demand Modelling.
• Geopolymer concrete –NDT Techniques – Blended concrete.
• Steel Structures – Structural Mechanics – FRP with Steel.
• Environmental Engineering – Engineering Process in improving the water quality.
• Environmental Engineering –Rain water and Grey water harvesting.
• Concrete Technology- Replacement of cement with other cementitious materials like GGBS, Fly Ash & Rice husk ash etc.
• Flood Modelling –Estimation of the probable maximum precipitation using various statistical methods.
• Storm water management.
• Study the behaviour of defective piles over the load carrying capacity.
• Construction Management – Sustainable building materials – Concrete Technology- Waste management.
