Our institution animal
house facility was established in the year 2009 and registered by CPCSEA- New
Delhi in the year 2010 in the Department of Biotechnology, at SVCE. The
institution animal house is recognized for the purpose of Research Education
using laboratory Small animals. The re-registration of animal house was done in
the year 2015 and 2017. The CPCSEA- New Delhi approval number for the
Institute animal house is 1398/PO/Re/S/10/CPCSEA for Research Education
purpose. Similarly, the Institutional Animal Ethical Committee (IAEC) of SVCE
was constituted in the year 2009 and the committee is reconstituted from time
to time in the year 2010, 2015 and 2017. The IAEC committee monitoring the
functions of animal house facility every 6 months in a year and inspection
report is often being submitted to CPCSEA- New Delhi by CPCSEA nominee every
year.
The institution animal
house has excellent facility to handle the small animals and it has facilities
such as quarantine room, rabbit room, mice-rat room, procedure room and washing
room. The animal house is maintained properly with air condition facility and
observation of moisture and air condition is noted by automatic machine.
The animals cages are frequently washed,
autoclaved and animals are kept in the husk bedding in the cages. The pure
mineral water is provided for the small animals with pellet foods. All cages
are properly labelled indicating the investigators name, the purpose of
investigation and the details about the animals. The animal house is daily
cleaned and maintained with proper sanitation. This is monitored daily by
Department Scientist in-charge animal house facility approved by CPCSEA- New
Delhi. As per UGC guidelines no dissection is carried out using laboratory
small to demonstrate for undergraduate students. This is separately monitored
by Institution Dissection Monitoring committee constituted in the year 2012.
The animals are used only for research education to carryout
the experiment to find the new drugs for various types of experimental studies
as pre-clinical study. For graduate students the procedures such as handling of
laboratory small animals, immunization of animals and collection of antisera is done every year with the approval of IAEC
members. For research education project the protocol is often submitted every
year to the IAEC committee members and during the meeting the protocols are
scrutinized by them and the members decide whether the submitted protocol have
to be approved or not based on ethical aspects and usage of number of small
animals for the protocol to be sanctioned.
Scientist In-charge –Dr. P. Pandi Prabha, Associate Professor
